GENERAL RULE TO IMPORT PET ANIMALS IN ITALY

All pets cannot be imported if they are less than 3 months old and must be vaccinated against rabies. So, at the age of 3 months, they must perform the rabies vaccine, and after 21 days they can enter the European Community.

IMPORT IN ITALY OF PETS FROM EU-COUNTRIES

If they come from a member states of the European Union and from the states listed below, the required documents are:

> Microchip
> Rabies Vaccination done at least 21 days before departure
> EU Pet Passport

Documentation required for import from the countries listed above:

  • EU Health Certificate (ANNEX I or ANNEX IV) issued by a Government Vet.
    • This certificate must show:
      • Microchip details
      • Rabies Vaccination details
    • This certificate will be valid 4 months for moves within the EU countries
  • Rabies Vaccinations Certificate and any other valid vaccination
    • All pets must be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before entering Europe
    • Rabies vaccination must be valid
  • For cats entering Europe from Australia or Malaysia:
    • they can be imported on condition that the animals have not been housed in farms where Hendra’s disease has been confirmed for the past 60 days. We need a declaration.

If Pets arrives from third countries not listed above:

  • EU Health Certificate (ANNEX I or ANNEX IV) issued by a Government Vet.
    • This certificate must show:
      • Microchip details
      • Rabies Vaccination details
    • This certificate will be valid 4 months for moves within the EU countries
  • Rabies Vaccinations Certificate and any other valid vaccination
    • All pets must be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before entering Europe
    • Rabies vaccination must be valid
  • Blood test report for antibodies against rabies, with a result not less than 0.5 IU/ml
    • Blood test must be done by an approved Laboratory
